Old map of Northern Ukraine with Kiev area (1650)

This map was created on 1650 when Ukraine was a part of Poland kingdom - you can see Polish Coat of Arms on the top left corner (White Eagle). All signatures are made in Polish language (Kiev-Kiiow). Distinctive feature of the map is the unusual position: North is underneath and South is on top of drawing. So the western parts of country are shown on the right part of map. You can find all contemporary towns - Brovary, Vasilkiv, Vyshgorod around Kiev and main rivers - Dniper and Desna. Interesting that all roads shown here have been preserved untill present time. Map is decorated with images of people in traditional Polish clothes. - Historical maps of Kiev and Ukraine

Trading down: Denbighshire. This 17th-century cottage near Corwen is for hermits with green fingers. The one bedroom will preclude guests, while the setting on a lane in the Berwyn Mountains, a mile-and-a-half from the village, conceals you from the outside world, and the place is dwarfed by large gardens overlooking a river. Inside, the open-plan reception is quaint with an exposed truss and large fireplace. Cost: £179,500.
